East Renfrewshire charity receives first burst of funding from homebuilders

An East Renfrewshire charity has received its first instalment of funding after its charity partnership with a consortium of homebuilders was announced last year.

CALA Homes (West) and Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, the team behind Maidenhill, handed over £1,800 to East Renfrewshire Good Causes, in the first of several donations set to be made throughout the inaugural phase of the development.

CALA Homes and Taylor Wimpey first pledged to make a £50 donation to the local charity for each house purchased within the first phase of the development back in 2018, and now with construction well and truly under way and the first handful of buyers moved in, the homebuilders were able to hand over the initial tranche of funding.

The grassroots charity, which focuses on providing support to a range of worthy causes across East Renfrewshire, will receive a total of £9,250 by the time all 185 homes within Westfield Gardens and Hazeldene Lea have been purchased.

Russell Macmillan, the founder of East Renfrewshire Good Causes, visited the development to officially accept the donation and talk to the teams about where the money is going.

Russell said: “We’re extremely grateful for this funding boost from CALA Homes and Taylor Wimpey.  It’s an especially meaningful partnership as the money is coming from a local development and will go directly into funding projects and causes across East Renfrewshire neighbourhoods.

“We’ve done a lot of fantastic work in the local community since I started the charity over twelve years ago.  In the last six months alone for example, our funding has allowed us to deliver a piano to a day care centre for people living with dementia, and provide paint and garden materials to a team of volunteers in order to improve the outdoor and entrance area to Isobel Mair School.

“These are just two examples of the work we’ve done, and thanks to this donation we’ll be able to continue our important outreach.”

Angela O’Hara, sales consultant, at CALA Homes (West), said: “Giving back to the local area is hugely important to us so we’re delighted to hand over this first burst of funding to East Renfrewshire Good Causes.  We look forward to a continued partnership the charity which does so much incredible work in the area.”

Gillian Lamont, sales executive, at Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, said: “East Renfrewshire Good Causes is a cause close to many people in the local area’s hearts, so it means a lot to us to be able to team up with them.

“We’ve been getting a really positive response about the partnership from people coming to view our showhomes.  By pledging a guaranteed amount for every home reserved, it means those who decide to live at Maidenhill are giving help to others in the area before they’ve even moved in.”
