Funding boost for East Renfrewshire charity as third homebuilder joins local partnership

An East Renfrewshire charity has received a funding boost from a trio of homebuilders to help locals who have been left in need in the wake of the pandemic.

East Renfrewshire Good Causes has been awarded £3,400 as part of an ongoing charity partnership with local consortium Maidenhill.

The handover coincides with the news that Miller Homes has now joined CALA and Taylor Wimpey as part of the charity partnership, meaning ERGC will benefit from an additional £3,000 over the duration of the programme.

CALA Homes (West) and Taylor Wimpey West Scotland previously pledged to make a ‘roof donation’ for each house purchased within the first phase of the development, and with Miller Homes now on board, a total of £12,250 will be donated once all homes have been purchased.

East Renfrewshire Good Causes is a grassroots charity which focuses on providing support to a range of worthy causes across the community, including individuals and organisations such as care homes and schools, which are in need.

Russell Macmillan, founder of East Renfrewshire Good Causes, recently celebrated reaching £1m worth of donations to residents and groups in the area.

Russell said: “This donation couldn’t have come at a better time.  The economic impact of COVID-19 is being felt by a lot of people in the area, including some of the local organisations.

“I’m extremely grateful for the support of the Maidenhill consortium, and it’s fantastic to have Miller Homes on board now as well.

“We’ve helped a lot of people in the local community since I started the charity over twelve years ago, and this additional funding will allow us to continue that work, and will have a hugely positive impact on the people we are able to assist.”

As part of the consortium partnership, the Miller Homes team will also work alongside CALA and Taylor Wimpey on additional community activity including engagement with local schools and businesses.

Miller Homes’ Crofthead at Maidenhill development is set to bring 60 family homes to the new neighbourhood in Newton Mearns, adding to the 185 phase one properties by CALA Homes and Taylor Wimpey at Hazeldene Lea and Westfield Gardens respectively.
