The creation of a brand new community in Maidenhill, Newton Mearns has been given the green light today (2 June) by East Renfrewshire Council.
The development between CALA Homes (West) and Taylor Wimpey West Scotland will see significant investment in the area, with more to come as the new urban quarter is brought to life.
The Maidenhill development will bring about the sensitive creation of a brand new neighbourhood comprising 834 new homes – 209 of which are designated as affordable housing.
Maidenhill, to the south-west of the town, off Ayr Road, will create local jobs, with approximately 1,200 man years of construction work needed to create the new neighbourhood.
As well as building properties ranging from one-bedroom flats to five-bedroom detached homes, the developers will provide land and funding to a new community primary school – incorporating a nursery, along with sports and play facilities – and a community religious facility.
Maidenhill Primary, which is targeted to open in 2019, will sit at the heart of the development and will be delivered by East Renfrewshire Council. It will offer 444 primary school places as well as 120 nursery places, and its multi-use games area (MUGA) and 3G pitch will be available for use by the wider community.
Generous public open space will be a main feature of Maidenhill, with 135,145 square metres – the equivalent of 19 football pitches – remaining as communal greenspace.
A linear green corridor running the full length of the site will be created, and a host of pocket parks will be spread throughout the development.
As well as enjoying excellent transport links and amenities already serving the area, the development will be designed with the needs of pedestrians and cyclists in mind including the delivery of new public transport links that will provide strong connectivity to the town.
