Strong start to 2021 for East Renfrewshire charity as funding extension confirmed

An East Renfrewshire charity is set to receive additional funding in 2021 as its partnership with a local homebuilding consortium has been extended.

East Renfrewshire Good Causes will receive an additional £6,050 in funding thanks to the extension of a charity partnership with the homebuilders behind the Maidenhill development, which was due to end in the coming weeks.

CALA Homes (West) and Taylor Wimpey West Scotland previously pledged to make a ‘roof donation’ to the charity for every house purchased within the first phase of the development back in 2018.  Miller Homes Scotland West also came on board in 2019 as they joined the consortium, bringing the total amount due to be donated to over £12,000.

While Miller Homes continues work on homes at Crofthead, CALA and Taylor Wimpey’s second phases are now underway, and the homebuilders have confirmed their charity partnership with ERGC will continue into this phase in order to further benefit local residents in need.

East Renfrewshire Good Causes was founded in 2007 by Newton Mearns resident Russell Macmillan, and since its formation, the charity has provided over £1m worth of donations to individuals and groups in the region.

The grassroots charity focuses on helping worthy causes across the community, including local residents and organisations such as care homes and schools, which are in need of support.

Russell said: “I’m delighted the homebuilders behind the Maidenhill consortium have decided to extend this partnership.

“The additional funding raised thanks to this partnership is very much appreciated, and it’s needed now more than ever as the economic impact of the pandemic continues to be felt across the community.

“I look forward to continuing my work with the team at Maidenhill and putting the roof donations to good use in order to help more members of the local community in their time of need.”

CALA Homes (West)’s second phase at Maidenhill will see an additional 77 homes built, including one and two-bedroom apartments alongside four and five-bedroom detached homes. Taylor Wimpey West Scotland’s second phase at Maidenhill, Westfield Gate, consists of 44 four and five-bedroom detached homes.
